Helion Lodge, Masonic lodge in Downtown Huntsville, Alabama, US
Helion Lodge is located in a building designed by architect Edgar Love in 1911 on Lincoln Street within Huntsville's Twickenham Historic District. The structure contains meeting rooms and ceremonial spaces for Masonic activities and gatherings.
The lodge was created in 1824 through the merger of Madison Lodge #21 and Bethesda Lodge #2, making it the first Masonic lodge established in Alabama. It continued operating even during the Civil War and the subsequent Union occupation of the area.
The lodge serves as a gathering place where Freemasons meet regularly to perform their rituals and ceremonies. It holds local importance as a center for community engagement and charitable work in the area.
The building is located downtown and can be easily found on foot. Since this is a private meeting space, visitors should be aware that access may be restricted and advance notice might be needed to arrange a visit.
The lodge influenced the establishment of two other Masonic lodges in the region, Solar Lodge #914 and Apollo Lodge #921. These later lodges demonstrate how the original organization expanded and grew over time.
