Joseph Parker House

The Joseph Parker House at 107 Grove Street is a two-story residence built in Federal style with Greek Revival details. It features characteristic elements including smaller upper-story windows, boxed cornices, and a decorative entry door that exemplify early 19th-century residential design.

The house was built around 1795 during the early Federal period in Massachusetts. Its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 recognized its architectural significance to the town's development.

The residence displays architectural choices that reflected the tastes of Reading's established families during the early 1800s. Its design combines Federal details with Greek Revival touches, showing how local builders adapted fashionable styles to Massachusetts homes.

The house is located on Grove Street in a residential neighborhood and is easily visible from the street. Visitors can view the architectural features from the outside and explore the surrounding area to see other houses from the same period.

From 1910 to 1932, the property served as a retreat center for young people from city areas through the Fathers' and Mothers' Club. This period of social service use is now largely forgotten in the building's history.
