Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial, Religious memorial site in Sharon, United States

The Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial is a tall granite obelisk marking the location where the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement entered the world. The structure stands prominently on the grounds, accompanied by a visitor center featuring exhibits and educational materials about the early days of the faith.

The memorial was built in 1905 to mark a century since the founder's birth, constructed under the direction of church leadership. This project represented a turning point in how the faith community recognized and honored this historical location.

For members of the Latter Day Saint faith, this site serves as a place for prayer and spiritual reflection, where people gather to connect with the origins of their religion. The memorial provides a setting for personal contemplation and meaningful experiences that matter deeply to many visitors.

The site is open to the public daily with free access and guided tours available, making it easy for visitors to learn about the early roots of the movement. Set aside time to explore the visitor center and view the displays at a comfortable pace.

The obelisk's height was deliberately designed so that each foot represents a year in the founder's life, connecting architecture with personal meaning. This thoughtful approach creates a subtle yet meaningful link between the physical structure and the person being remembered.
