Kenosha Elks Club, Historic fraternal club building in downtown Kenosha, United States.
The Kenosha Elks Club is a red brick building with Georgian Revival architecture, distinguished by a prominent entrance portico supported by two-story Doric columns. Inside, multiple rooms across different floors serve as guest accommodations and event spaces, now operating as The Stella Hotel and Ballroom.
The structure was built between 1916 and 1919, replacing a previous malt house that had burned down in 1914 on this same site. The new building represented recovery and became home to a civic organization that shaped community life in the early 20th century.
The building served as a gathering place where the community came together for celebrations and entertainment throughout the 20th century. Its function rooms became known for hosting performances and events that brought neighbors together regularly.
The building is easily located in downtown Kenosha and functions as a hotel and event venue, keeping it accessible to visitors and guests. You can admire the exterior architecture or explore the interior if attending an event or staying overnight.
Members of the Elks organization conducted nightly ceremonies at 11 PM, ringing chimes to honor members who had passed away or were absent. This practice became a defining tradition of the club and set it apart from other gathering places in town.
