LaTourette House

LaTourette House is a two-story brick residence featuring stone trim details, built in the Federal and Greek Revival architectural styles on Staten Island. The building has a substantial gable roof and displays an L-shaped wooden porch that wraps around the exterior of the property.

The house was built in 1836 as a private residence. In 1928, New York City acquired the property and converted it into a clubhouse to establish a golf course on the surrounding land.

The house displays design elements from a transitional period in American home building, where two architectural styles were beginning to blend together. This mix of influences is visible in the decorative details and proportions of the building that visitors can observe today.

The property is accessible within the Richmond Hill area on Staten Island and occupies several acres of land. Visitors should keep in mind that the building is part of a larger golf course complex, so visiting hours may vary depending on current use.

The Works Progress Administration carried out restoration work in 1936 and added a one-story extension to the building. This public works project left a lasting mark on the physical form of the house as it appears today.
