Metro Ice Arena
Metro Ice Arena is a multi-purpose hall in Des Moines used for ice sports and events. It serves as the primary training facility for the Iowa Figure Skating Association, hosting figure skating, hockey, and other ice-related activities.
The arena opened in the 1970s in Lansing, Michigan, as a sports venue and home to the Lansing Lancers hockey team. It later transitioned to a movie theater in the early 1980s before eventually serving other purposes.
The facility offers training and competition opportunities for figure skaters and hockey players of all levels. The arena is currently closed for equipment repairs, though it is expected to reopen to serve the local skating community.
The Iowa Figure Skating Association was founded by two former world champions who also worked on Disney on Ice productions. This background brings professional skating traditions to the local training and teaching programs.
