Minnesota Streetcar Museum, Transport museum in Hennepin County, US.
The Minnesota Streetcar Museum is a transport museum in Hennepin County housing restored heritage streetcars from the early 1900s. It operates two active lines running through Minneapolis and the nearby suburb of Excelsior on the shore of Lake Minnetonka.
The collection traces back to the Twin City Rapid Transit Company and began with a single streetcar from the 1920s. The organization as it exists today formed in 2005 when it separated from the Minnesota Transportation Museum to focus specifically on streetcar preservation.
The streetcars on display shaped how people moved through Minnesota communities and connected neighborhoods that might otherwise have remained separate. These vehicles remind visitors of a time when public transit was woven into daily life and local identity.
The museum operates from April through October when weather permits rides on both active lines. Visitors should start at the main depot where staff can provide route information and help with boarding.
The Como-Harriet Line follows the original streetcar route between two lakes that existed over a century ago. This route represents one of the few surviving urban streetcar lines that has operated continuously in its original location.
