Mory's, Private dining club near Yale University, United States
Mory's is a private dining club set in a two-story wooden building on York Street in New Haven, Connecticut, with several private dining rooms and the Temple Bar lounge. The rooms are arranged for groups of different sizes and kept separate from one another.
The place opened in 1849 as a restaurant that offered credit to Yale students, quickly becoming a fixture near the campus. In 1912, alumni bought the building and turned it into a private membership club.
Members carve their initials into the wooden dining tables, a tradition kept alive by generations of Yale students and alumni. Anyone walking through the dining rooms can see these marks covering nearly every surface of the tables.
The building is within easy walking distance of the Yale campus and straightforward to find on York Street. Because this is a private membership club, a visit requires joining before arriving.
The club is known for a dish called Baker Soup, a tomato curry and cream soup topped with croutons that has been on the menu for decades. It is rarely found anywhere else and has become something regulars often order without even looking at the rest of the menu.
