Notre Dame School is a three-story structure with a below-grade basement constructed from Fall River granite and red brick at 34 St. Joseph's Street. The building features decorative entablature with brackets, a detailed roofline, and a recessed central entrance.
The school was established in 1876 and became a major educational institution in the region before closing in 2008. Its opening reflected the growth of Fall River as an industrial center during that era.
The building displays Colonial Revival architecture with fluted Doric columns and a recessed entrance that shaped the neighborhood's visual character for more than a century. Its design principles continue to influence how people perceive this part of Fall River.
The building is currently being transformed into residential apartments and is not open to the public for tours. You can view its exterior architecture from the street to appreciate the historic details.
The building was designed by local architect Louis G. Destremps, who also designed the neighboring St. Joseph's Orphanage. His architectural work left a notable mark on Fall River's streetscape during the late 1800s.
