Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, Roman Catholic church in Fall River, Massachusetts.
Notre Dame de Lourdes Church is a granite church building in Fall River, Massachusetts, constructed in 1986 on the site of an earlier structure. The building incorporates salvaged elements from the previous church, which was destroyed by fire during renovation work in 1982.
The parish was founded in 1874 to serve 250 French-Canadian families in Flint Village. It expanded significantly by the late 19th century to serve about 900 families, becoming a central place of worship for the area.
The Sacred Heart Monument, created by sculptor Lucien Hippolyte Gosselin in 1920, stands in the church grounds to honor twenty-two community members who died during World War I. It serves as a quiet reminder of the sacrifices made by the parish during the conflict.
The site is open to visitors and has outdoor areas with clear pathways for walking around the grounds. It is best visited during daylight hours to fully appreciate the granite details and the windows of the building.
The parish merged with Immaculate Conception Church in 2012 to form the new Saint Bernadette Parish. The merged community held its final Mass on August 5, 2018, marking the end of a long era of worship at this location.
