Odd Fellows' Home, Historic retirement home in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The Odd Fellows' Home is a Late Victorian building on Randolph Road notable for its mansard-roofed tower and round-topped clock dormers that stand out from the structure. An addition in Classical Revival style with limestone details was incorporated later to expand the facility.
Construction took place between 1890 and 1892 by architects Barker and Nourse. A major expansion came about a decade later, adding new spaces to the original structure.
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows created this residence to help members of their fraternal organization receive care in their later years. The founding idea shaped how the building was designed and continues to guide its purpose today.
The building sits on spacious grounds with plenty of open area around it, allowing visitors to view the architectural details from different vantage points. The setting makes it easy to walk around the property and take in the structure from multiple angles.
A lawyer named Thomas Dodge donated his property in 1890 to ensure that future residents would have plenty of daylight and fresh air. This generous gift shaped the open green surroundings where the home sits today.
