Old Colony History Museum

The Old Colony History Museum occupies a Renaissance Revival building designed by architect Richard Upjohn located at Church Green in Taunton. The museum displays historical collections and maintains archives that document how communities in southeastern Massachusetts developed over time.

The organization was founded in 1853 and ranks among the earliest historical societies in New England. It was established to preserve the memory of the region's colonial communities and their stories for future generations.

The museum documents the story of the region that was once part of Plymouth Colony. Visitors can learn how early settlers shaped life in New England through the collections on display.

Each autumn the museum hosts the Liberty and Union Festival to mark an October 1774 flag raising that showed local resistance to British rule. This seasonal event highlights a lesser-known aspect of revolutionary history in the region that happened away from Boston's main stage.
