Pilgrim Congregational Church, Romanesque Revival church on Broadway, Taunton, United States.
Pilgrim Congregational Church is a fieldstone structure built in the Romanesque Revival style on Broadway in Taunton. The building features a broad gabled roof, a square tower with round-arched openings, a recessed entrance under an arched alcove, and a chapel wing added in 1915.
The congregation formed in 1823 after members separated from the First Parish Church in Taunton. Richard Upjohn, a renowned architect, designed the building in 1852 and established its enduring architectural presence.
For generations, the congregation has gathered here for worship and meetings that shaped the local community. Today the building continues hosting events that bring people together throughout the city.
The building sits north of Taunton Green at 45 Broadway and is easy to locate in the city center. Inside, multiple meeting spaces and chapel areas provide flexible arrangements for different kinds of gatherings.
The fieldstone walls feature large round-arch stained glass windows positioned along the sides of the building. Narrow Gothic-arched windows on the tower facade create a striking contrast in the overall design.
