Penn Valley Park, Urban park in downtown Kansas City, United States.
Penn Valley Park is a large urban park in downtown Kansas City with lakes, walking trails, and open recreation areas. The grounds include tennis courts, ball fields, a dog park, and a skate park spread across a gently rolling landscape.
The park was created in 1904 on land that once served as part of the Santa Fe Trail, a major historic route crossing the American West. To make way for it, around 300 homes were removed from the area.
The park grounds contain the National World War I Museum and Liberty Memorial, alongside statues like The Scout and Pioneer Mother Memorial. These monuments tell stories of war and settlement that become real for visitors as they walk through the open spaces.
All facilities in the park are free and open without registration. The terrain is hilly in parts, so comfortable footwear is a good idea if you plan to walk between the different areas.
A roughly 2-mile (3 km) fitness trail loops through the park, passing by several memorials while offering open views of the downtown skyline. Most visitors miss it entirely because they head straight to the museums.
