The structure was completed in 2008 and became the first Federal Reserve building constructed after 2001, with security design at its core. It rose on the former site of St. Mary's Hospital, beginning a new chapter for this institution in Kansas City.

The Money Museum inside showcases historical coins and currency items that tell the story of how money has shaped daily life. These collections help visitors understand the connection between financial systems and everyday commerce.

Visitors can enter the Money Museum during regular hours to view educational displays about currency and monetary policy. As a federal facility, expect security screening when visiting the complex, which helps ensure the safety of all guests.

In 2011, a temporary art installation made from shipping containers took shape on the grounds, displaying a two-sided message. This work served as artistic commentary on financial topics and drew attention from both art enthusiasts and passersby.
