Potato Creek State Park is a protected area with a lake and forests in north-central Indiana covering roughly 3,840 acres. The grounds feature Worster Lake, mature woodlands, restored prairie areas, and wetlands where many plant and animal species thrive.
This area held importance long before European settlement, as Native Americans gathered wild tubers from the creek banks. When settlers arrived in the 1830s, dams were built to harness water power for mills.
This place serves as a stopover for migratory birds and hosts many species that are native or passing through the region. Visitors often observe these birds during seasonal transitions when large flocks move between breeding grounds.
The grounds offer multiple hiking trails, a nature center, swimming areas, and fishing spots suitable for different skill levels. Visitors also find rental cabins and mountain biking paths spread across the property.
A new lodging building is planned along the lake shore, which would be the park's first major overnight facility in over 80 years. This project marks a significant change to the park's infrastructure and visitor experience.
