Riggs National Bank, بنك في واشنطن، الولايات المتحدة

Riggs National Bank is a former bank building in downtown Washington, D.C., located on Pennsylvania Avenue across from the U.S. Treasury. Designed by architects York & Sawyer between 1899 and 1902, it features a granite facade with prominent ionic columns and a classical style that was meant to convey stability and strength.

The original Riggs Bank was founded in 1840 by William Corcoran and George Riggs and became instrumental in financing major government projects including the Alaska Purchase. The building standing today was constructed from 1899 to 1902 and earned its place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The bank's name comes from George Riggs, a founder from a prominent New York banking family. For generations, it served as a place where prominent citizens and government officials conducted their financial affairs.

The building sits directly on Pennsylvania Avenue near the Treasury Department and is easily accessible on foot. Today it houses the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream, where visitors can walk through the restored main banking hall with its original moldings and decorative details.

An expansion in the early 1920s added a western wing with a skylight system that channels natural light into the main banking hall below. This thoughtfully designed glass ceiling remains one of the building's most distinctive features and continues to brighten the restored interior.
