Regis College, private college in Weston, Massachusetts
Regis College is a private institution located in Weston, Massachusetts, about 12 miles (19 kilometers) west of Boston. The 132-acre suburban campus contains classrooms, five residential halls, a library, science laboratories, a theater, and recreational facilities including athletic fields and a swimming pool.
The college was founded in 1927 by the Sisters of St. Joseph and began as a women's college. It remained an all-women institution for over 80 years until 2007, when it became coeducational and became the last Catholic women's college in the Boston area to admit men.
The college was named after Mary Regis Casserly, who helped establish the Sisters of St. Joseph in Boston in 1873. This name reflects the institution's connection to its founding religious community and its role in the local Catholic educational tradition.
The campus is located in a quiet suburban area where visitors can move around easily on foot and access green spaces. Core facilities include dining halls, a bookstore, a post office, and lounge areas in the central buildings.
The college houses the Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History, a specialized collection accessible on campus. This museum preserves thousands of stamps and postal artifacts documenting the development of international mail services.
