Resaca Confederate Cemetery, Military cemetery in Resaca, Georgia, US.
Resaca Confederate Cemetery is a burial ground holding over 450 graves of soldiers who fell during one of the Civil War's major battles in 1864. Most graves remain marked as unknown since many bodies could not be identified after the intense fighting.
Two sisters discovered the fallen soldiers buried across their family property in 1866 and established this cemetery to give them proper burial. The battle itself had lasted two days and proved to be one of the most costly engagements in that region.
The grounds serve as a place where the community honors soldiers who died in combat during the Civil War. Visitors can see memorials that reflect how locals have maintained this space as a solemn tribute to the fallen.
The cemetery is open year-round without charge and provides parking on the grounds for visitors. Self-guided tours allow you to walk through at your own pace and explore the graves and monuments throughout the site.
A handful of graves are marked with May 15, 1864, while most show May 14, 1864, documenting the intensity of the two-day clash. These different dates reveal how the fighting dragged on and soldiers continued dying days into the engagement.
