Roanoke Rapids High School, high school in North Carolina, United States

Roanoke Rapids High School is a high school in North Carolina with distinctive Tudor Revival architectural elements throughout its structure. The building features a prominent tower at its front, slate tile roofing, multiple windows, and a T-shaped layout spanning several stories including a partial third floor.

The school opened in 1921, founded by local industrialist Samuel Paterson as a symbol of the town's growth and community pride. In 1988, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its historical importance to the region.

The school carries black and yellow as its colors and a yellow jacket as its mascot, symbols that have defined student identity since its founding. These emblems connect generations of students to their community and remain visible in school traditions today.

The campus spans about one and a half acres with the main building prominently located along Hamilton Street in Roanoke Rapids. You can view the exterior architecture from outside the campus, though be aware the grounds are actively used during school hours.

The building was designed by architect Hobart Upjohn and cost significantly more than other high schools of its era, underscoring its role as a community centerpiece. Its exterior resembles historic universities like Cambridge and Oxford, reflecting the ambitious vision its founders held for education in the town.
