Saint Aidan's Church and Rectory
Saint Aidan's Church and Rectory, Catholic church and rectory in Brookline, United States
Saint Aidan's Church and Rectory is a church and residential building in Brookline featuring Gothic Revival style with red brick walls, brownstone trim, and a corner tower that gives it a distinctive silhouette. The structure at 201 Freeman Street now contains 59 mixed-income apartments and is no longer used for religious services.
The church was designed by architecture firm Maginnis & Walsh in 1911 and became the third Catholic parish established in Brookline. The adjoining rectory, built around 1850, underwent architectural modifications in 1920 to align with the church's style.
The church held strong connections to the Kennedy family, serving as the baptism site for John F. Kennedy on June 19, 1917.
The building is not open for public visits since it was converted into apartments. You can view and appreciate the Gothic Revival architecture and towers from the street when passing by Freeman Street.
The rectory, built around 1850 by Boston lawyer Edward G. Parker, underwent architectural modifications in 1920 to match the church's design.
