Sakonnet Light, Historic lighthouse and National Register site in Newport County, Rhode Island.
The white painted cast iron structure rises 20 meters above the water, featuring a conical shape atop a cylindrical base near Little Compton.
Construction of Sakonnet Light began in 1884, equipped with a Fourth Order Fresnel lens to guide maritime vessels through the Sakonnet River passage.
The lighthouse represents the maritime heritage of Rhode Island, serving generations of sailors while standing as a symbol of coastal navigation technology.
Visitors can observe the lighthouse from nearby shorelines throughout the year, although direct access to the structure remains restricted to maintenance personnel.
Local citizens prevented the demolition of the structure in the 1960s, leading to its purchase by the Haffenreffer family and subsequent restoration efforts.
