Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge

The refuge spans 800 acres of coastal land featuring salt marshes, grasslands, and rocky shorelines along the Atlantic coast of Rhode Island.

Established in 1970, this protected area has transformed from coastal lands into a sanctuary that safeguards numerous species along the Atlantic Flyway.

The refuge serves as an educational center where visitors learn about wildlife conservation through guided programs and interpretive exhibits at the visitor center.

Visitors can explore nearly three miles of trails from sunrise to sunset, with facilities including parking areas, restrooms, and observation platforms.

The location hosts the second largest population of harlequin ducks on the Atlantic coast during winter months, from November through March.
