Stone House Inn, Historic guesthouse in Little Compton, Rhode Island, US.
Stone House Inn is a four-story fieldstone residence with 16 guest rooms and suites situated near the tip of Sakonnet Point on extensive grounds. The property features an on-site restaurant, direct beach access, and outdoor gathering spaces.
Built in 1854 as a residence for Providence industrialist David Sisson, the house later became home to Civil War veteran Henry Sisson. After 1902 it transitioned to operating as a boarding establishment, beginning its long service as a hospitality venue.
The stone structure reflects 19th-century New England building traditions with its fieldstone walls and period details visible throughout. The renovated barn next to the main residence now hosts gatherings, keeping the property active in community life.
The inn is accessed via Sakonnet Road with parking available on the grounds. Visitors should note that the coastal location means open winds and changing beach conditions throughout the seasons.
A major hurricane in 1938 significantly damaged the building and destroyed its distinctive cupola. After decades of closure, extensive restoration work brought the structure back to life while carefully preserving many original features.
