Sac County Courthouse, Gerichtsgebäude in den Vereinigten Staaten
The Sac County Courthouse is a two-story red brick building built around 1889 in Sac City, Iowa, showing simple and practical design. It features horizontal stone bands on the walls, large rounded stone arches over the windows, and a hipped roof with a small tower-like section rising from the center.
The current courthouse was built in 1889, replacing two earlier buildings constructed in 1860 and 1873. The second structure was destroyed by fire in 1888, prompting the community and insurance company to jointly fund the construction of this replacement.
The courthouse serves as the civic center of Sac City and occupies a prominent location in the town. For residents, it represents the continuity and stability of their community across generations.
The courthouse is located on Main Street in the center of Sac City and is easily accessible on foot. It is open to visitors when court sessions or public events are held inside.
The courthouse was designed by architect J.M. Russell from Storm Lake and incorporates Romanesque elements in its rounded arches. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981, officially recognizing it as worthy of preservation.
