Sheboygan Hmong Memorial, War memorial and sculpture in Deland Park, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, United States
The Sheboygan Hmong Memorial is a war memorial and sculpture featuring 24 panels arranged in a circular pattern along the Lake Michigan shoreline in Deland Park. The panels display inscribed names of fallen veterans, contributors, and military personnel who served in the conflict.
The memorial was established in 2006 and honors Hmong soldiers who served with American forces in the Secret War that took place in Laos between 1961 and 1975. It stands as a tribute to their service and sacrifice during this lesser-known chapter of Cold War history.
Local students created mosaic designs showing daily life scenes of Hmong, Lao, and American people during and after the war. You can walk along the memorial and see stories of families, work, and everyday moments depicted in these student artworks.
The site is easy to reach on foot and sits right along the water with clear views, making it simple to find and explore at your own pace. The park offers space for walking and reflection in a peaceful setting.
At the heart of the memorial sits a pang dao element added in 2010, which features traditional Hmong embroidery patterns within a green circular design. This traditional craft adds a cultural layer that connects ancestral symbols to the modern tribute.
