Slade's Ferry Bridge, Railway bridge over Taunton River in Fall River, Massachusetts
The steel swing truss bridge featured two levels, with the upper deck serving the Providence, Warren and Bristol Railroad and lower deck for vehicles.
The bridge opened in 1875 to replace previous ferry services and operated until 1970, connecting Somerset and Fall River across the Taunton River.
The structure represented advancements in transportation engineering during the industrial development of southeastern Massachusetts in the late nineteenth century.
The bridge connected Remington Street in Fall River to the junction of Riverside Avenue, Brayton Avenue, and Wilbur Avenue in Somerset.
After a ship collision in 1932, engineers replaced the original swing section with a bascule mechanism to allow river traffic passage.
