Established in 1867 with five acres of land purchased by the city, the cemetery contains numerous graves of soldiers from the Battle of Wilson Creek.
The cemetery maintains both Union and Confederate sections, reflecting the complex historical dynamics of the American Civil War in Missouri.
Fresh flowers can be placed at graves any time, while artificial arrangements are permitted between October and April according to specific guidelines.
The 1911 addition of Confederate Cemetery Association land expanded the grounds while initially restricting burials to Confederate veterans.
