St. Bernard Church features round-arched openings and a bell tower, incorporating elements of Rundbogenstil design throughout its architectural structure.
Following a fire in 1904 that destroyed the original building, architect Joseph A. Jackson designed the current church, which was dedicated in September 1908.
The parish began in 1854 when Catholic residents gathered for Mass in the Paper Mill Company house before moving to Skinner Hall above Market Street.
The church maintains services in multiple languages and includes modern accessibility adaptations while preserving its historical architectural elements.
The building houses one of the earliest Austin organs, Opus 205, which combines historical components with a contemporary digital instrument system.
