Stokes State Forest spans 16,025 acres across the Kittatinny Mountain Ridge, featuring freshwater streams, diverse hiking trails, and mountain peaks reaching 1,653 feet.
The forest, established in 1917 through a 500-acre donation by Governor Edward C. Stokes, underwent significant development during the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
The land holds connections to Lenni-Lenape Native Americans, who utilized natural resources before European settlers arrived in the 1800s for agriculture and mining.
The forest provides 122 camping sites with fire rings and picnic tables, along with access to 63 miles of marked trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
The Tillman Ravine Natural Area within the forest spans 525 acres, providing a specialized habitat for endangered species and geological formations shaped by glacial activity.
