The Gateway, Mixed-use development in New Brunswick, US
The Gateway is a modern high-rise at Somerset Street comprising 23 floors that houses residential units, retail shops, and office space. The building provides extensive parking across multiple levels and includes a pedestrian bridge linking it to the Rutgers College Avenue Campus.
Construction began in June 2009 and the building opened in September 2012, bringing significant new development to the New Brunswick downtown area. The project marked a turning point in revitalizing the neighborhood around the Rutgers campus.
The Barnes & Noble bookstore inside operates as a hub where Rutgers students and local residents gather to browse books and academic materials. It serves as a social gathering place that supports both campus life and the wider community.
The building is easy to navigate with clear access points to parking, retail areas, and the pedestrian bridge to campus. Visitors can orient themselves simply by following the main corridors and signage throughout the structure.
A large clock face on the main facade displays the letters R-U-T-G-E-R-S and serves as a distinctive landmark of the building. This creative design element makes the structure instantly recognizable when viewing the skyline from a distance.
