The Investment Building

The Investment Building, Office building in downtown Washington D.C., United States

Description

The Investment Building is a 13-story office structure at 1501 K Street NW in downtown Washington D.C. Its facade combines glass panels and steel framing with preserved architectural details from an earlier period.

History

The building was completed in 2001 and integrated portions of the original 1924 facade into its modern design. This project paid tribute to the site's architectural heritage while creating something new for the area.

Culture

The building shows how Washington D.C. blends its past with modern life. Visitors can see how historical details stand alongside contemporary elements, with both eras coexisting in the same structure.

Practical

The building houses offices and retail spaces on the ground floor, including a cafe. Visitors can explore the publicly accessible areas, particularly the retail zone and the surrounding K Street corridor with its many shops and dining options.

Did you know?

Renowned architect César Pelli designed the building to stand approximately 154 feet tall while intentionally weaving the old facade into the new structure. This blending of old and new shows a thoughtful approach to urban renewal in the downtown area.
