Third Avenue Bridge

The Third Avenue Bridge is a steel swing bridge that crosses the Harlem River between Manhattan and the Bronx. It carries vehicular traffic on multiple lanes alongside dedicated pathways for pedestrians on both sides.

The original bridge opened in 1898, and underwent major modifications in 1928 when trolley tracks were removed to accommodate growing automobile traffic. This shift reflected New York's transition toward car-based transportation.
