Trump Winery covers 1,300 acres (527 hectares) in the Piedmont region of Virginia and grows French grape varieties on 227 acres (92 hectares). The vineyards lie on rolling hills and are overlooked by a large Georgian-style mansion that serves as a hotel.
Patricia Kluge founded the estate in 1999 and built it into a large operation. Donald Trump acquired the property in 2011 at a foreclosure auction for 8.5 million dollars after Kluge ran into financial difficulties.
The name comes from its acquisition by Trump after the original owner had to give up the operation. Today guests come here for the wines and for the location in a region with a long winemaking tradition among the gentle hills of Virginia.
The wine tasting takes place in the Grand Hall Tasting Room from Wednesday through Monday between 11 AM and 5 PM. Depending on the season there are small dishes and snacks that can be ordered with the wines.
The sprawling Albemarle Estate with 26,000 square feet (2,415 square meters) serves as a boutique hotel and sits in the middle of the vineyards. Guests can stay in this Georgian mansion and have a direct view of the vines and the surrounding hills.
