USS S-24, Naval submarine wreck in English Channel, United Kingdom.

The S-24 submarine measured 219 feet in length with a beam of 20 feet and could reach speeds of 14.5 knots while surfaced.

Built at Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation in Massachusetts, the S-24 submarine launched in 1922 and served during World War II under both US and British flags.

The submarine represented a significant advancement in naval technology as part of the first class of submarines built to United States Navy designs.

The vessel accommodated 42 crew members and operated from multiple bases including New London, San Diego, San Pedro, and Mare Island throughout its service period.

In 1947, the submarine concluded its service when deliberately sunk near Portland Bill to function as a permanent sonar target for military training.
