Upright Channel State Park, Marine park on Lopez Island, San Juan County, United States.
Upright Channel State Park is a coastal reserve with beaches, tidelands, and grassy areas arranged along a narrow water channel on Lopez Island. The grounds span approximately 20 acres and offer views across to the neighboring islands of the San Juan archipelago.
The park was originally managed by Washington State Parks until it transferred to San Juan County administration in May 2014. This shift in management brought changes to how the coastal area is protected and made available to visitors.
The name refers to the water channels that define this location, areas that indigenous communities relied on for trade and travel through the islands. Today, visitors walk along the same routes where these historic water passages shaped how people moved across the archipelago.
The park is accessible by car via a straightforward route with parking available near the beach areas. Visitors should prepare for changeable weather and wear footwear with good grip, since tidelands can become slippery when wet.
The grounds are one of the few places in this region where visitors can arrive on foot from the island or by private boat. This dual accessibility makes it a flexible destination for both island residents and boaters seeking different ways to approach the location.
