Van Buren State Park extends across 296 acres of land, featuring a 45-acre lake surrounded by beech and sugar maple trees in northwestern Ohio.
The park originated in 1939 when a dam built over Rocky Ford Creek formed Van Buren Lake, becoming an official state park in 1950.
The area holds significance as the final settlement of Shawnee Indians before their westward migration, with artifacts remaining on Indian Island within the lake.
The park provides facilities for camping, including primitive and full-service sites, plus three shelter houses available for reservation throughout the year.
The park's landscape contains dolomitic limestone beneath the topsoil, resulting from glacial deposits left by the retreating Wisconsinan glacier.
