Vol Walker Hall, Academic library at University of Arkansas, United States
Vol Walker Hall is a three-story limestone structure with classical columns and symmetrical windows on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. The building contains studios, lecture spaces, and computer labs designed for architecture and design education.
The building was constructed in 1935 during the Public Works Administration era and originally functioned as the university's main library. It was repurposed in 1968 to become the School of Architecture, reflecting changing needs for specialized teaching spaces.
The building houses the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, where students work on projects and use the spaces as a hub for creative thinking about how buildings and spaces should be shaped.
The building provides extensive study and work areas with computer labs and design workshops available to students and faculty. Visitors should know it remains an active teaching space where projects and exhibitions are regularly displayed throughout the building.
A major 2013 expansion added the Steven L. Anderson Design Center, connecting modern architectural elements with the original 1935 limestone structure. This addition demonstrates how older buildings can be adapted to meet contemporary educational demands without losing their character.
