Walker School

Walker School is a two-story educational building on Berkley Street with a symmetrical brick facade divided into eleven sections. The structure features a hip roof and a rounded-arch entrance with oval windows throughout.

The building was designed and constructed in 1895 by architects E.A. Crane and F.D. Williams. It served as a school for more than a century before closing in 2010 and being listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The building is named after William Ellery Walker, a local businessman whose land donation made construction possible. It reflects how much importance Taunton placed on education during the late 1800s.

The building sits in downtown Taunton within a neighborhood of other historical structures. You can view and photograph the exterior from Berkley Street without difficulty.

The building displays Georgian Revival style features, an architectural choice common in New England school buildings of that era. The oval windows are a particularly distinctive detail of this historic facade.
