Winston Churchill, Bronze statue near Embassy Row, Washington, D.C., United States.

The bronze statue shows Winston Churchill standing with one foot on British Embassy grounds and another foot on American soil, making a victory sign.

The English-Speaking Union initiated the statue project after Churchill's 89th birthday, leading to its installation and dedication ceremony on April 9, 1966.

Sculptor William McVey incorporated Churchill's characteristic cigar after extensive debate, as research showed only 22 out of 300 photographs depicted him without one.

The statue stands at the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Washington, D.C., at coordinates 38.9198181 latitude and -77.0615306 longitude.

A time capsule rests beneath the statue, scheduled for opening in 2063, marking 100 years since Churchill received his honorary United States citizenship.
