Zen Mountain Monastery

Zen Mountain Monastery sits on 220 acres of forested land in the Catskill Mountains and includes meditation halls, living quarters, and teaching spaces. The facilities support weekend retreats, residential programs, and ongoing training for visitors of different experience levels.

The site began as a summer camp in the 1930s before becoming a Buddhist monastery in 1980. This transformation repurposed the forest property into a center for spiritual practice and training.

The monastery blends Rinzai and Soto Zen traditions through daily training and community gatherings that shape life here. Visitors experience the spiritual practices that form the foundation of how this place functions.

The monastery offers weekend retreats and meditation sessions that welcome visitors of all experience levels. Accommodations in the newly completed Jizo House provide accessible facilities for people with various needs.

The monastery maintains a traditional Japanese tea house and an on-site cemetery. These spaces reflect the deep connection to zen Buddhist practices that guide daily life here.
