Zumbrota Covered Bridge, Historic covered bridge in Zumbrota, United States.
Zumbrota Covered Bridge is a wooden bridge crossing the Zumbro River in this small town. It features a roadway about 15 feet wide enclosed by a protective wooden structure built with traditional timber truss design.
The bridge was constructed in 1869 to replace a structure that had been destroyed by flooding in the area. The protective wooden covering was added two years later to preserve the timber structure.
The bridge stands as a centerpiece during the Covered Bridge Festival, celebrated annually during the third weekend of June.
The bridge is easily reached by car through Highway 52 and local roads that lead directly to the site. The location sits centrally in town making it accessible for most visitors throughout the year.
This structure is the only original timber truss bridge still standing in Minnesota and was relocated after its initial construction. The relocation demonstrated how such complex wooden structures could be preserved and moved to new locations.
