Hollins University

Hollins University is a private women's university in Hollins, Virginia, spread across historical buildings and green spaces. The institution maintains a ratio of nine students to one faculty member for personal learning experiences.

The institution was founded in 1842 as Valley Union Seminary and stands among the oldest educational institutions for women in the United States. Its campus has been recognized as a Virginia Historic Landmark.

The annual Tinker Day brings students together for outdoor activities and performances while wearing costumes, continuing a tradition over a century old. The event marks a day free from scheduled classes and regular routines across campus.

The campus grounds allow visitors to walk across open lawns and between brick buildings from the 19th century. Tours are available by prior arrangement and provide insights into academic life and architecture.

The Hollins College Quadrangle includes several buildings from its early period when the site served as both a resort and an educational seminary. This dual function is still reflected in the design of the central campus today.
