Hermitage Apartments

Hermitage Apartments is a residential building composed of five distinct bays, each with different window sizes and individual architectural features. The structure combines limestone and brick facades with multiple roof designs, creating a visually varied appearance throughout.

Architect Jens J. Jensen designed the building in 1927 as a residential complex for the Uptown neighborhood. The structure was later added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, confirming its importance to the city's architectural history.

The building displays a blend of European style elements visible in its varied facade treatments and cone-shaped tower topped with a weather vane. These features give the structure an older character that stands apart from typical modern apartment buildings in the neighborhood.

The building sits at 4606 North Hermitage Avenue in the Uptown residential area and is easily accessible on foot. The street location provides a clear view of the entire facade, making it simple to observe all the architectural details from the sidewalk.

The building was intentionally designed to resemble five separate houses placed side by side and merged into one structure. This design approach creates a visual effect that challenges the perception of the building as a single unified block.
