Midway University, Private Christian liberal arts university in Midway, Kentucky, United States
Midway University is a private institution in Kentucky situated on extensive grounds with trees and fields. The campus features old and new buildings in Greek revival style, offers more than 25 majors, and houses approximately 439 residential students alongside numerous online learners.
The institution was established in 1847 as the Kentucky Female Orphan School to serve girls without parents or in difficult circumstances. It evolved into Midway College and later became Midway University in 2015 to reflect the enrollment of both men and women.
The university's roots in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) remain part of its identity today, though it welcomes students of all faiths and backgrounds. Walking through campus, you see students studying outdoors, riding horses, or playing sports, creating a sense of shared community and tradition.
The campus is easily accessible, located about 14 miles from Lexington with access to several regional airports. Visitors can use designated guest parking, and visits should be coordinated through the admissions office for guidance and assistance.
The grounds include a working equestrian facility with indoor and outdoor arenas where students gain hands-on experience in horse care and riding training. This connection to horses sets the institution apart from many other universities in the region.
