New Boston Space Force Station, United States Space Force facility in Hillsborough County, south central New Hampshire
New Boston Space Force Station is a military installation in New Hampshire that spans more than 2,000 acres and supports space operations. The site consists mainly of forests and wetlands with 14 ponds and features large white dome structures called radomes that protect antennas used for tracking spacecraft.
The installation was established in 1942 as Grenier Field and initially served as a training ground for fighter pilots during World War II. After the war, it transformed into a space tracking station, equipped with radomes starting in the 1950s and tracking satellites and spacecraft since the 1960s.
The station carries the name of the nearby town of New Boston and holds importance in the local community's identity and pride. Residents connect this place to achievements in space exploration and feel a strong attachment to their town's role in national security and space operations.
The installation is not open to the general public due to security requirements and requires clearance to enter. Some educational events and public celebrations allow visitors to learn about its space operations from designated areas.
The site contains a rare red spruce bog with deep peat layers that supports specialized plants and insects under environmental protection. This unusual combination of advanced space technology operating alongside protected natural habitat makes the location distinctive.
