Wilton Town Hall Theatre occupies the 1886 red brick town hall at 42 Main Street, on a steeply sloping triangular lot with its basement side exposed in rustically cut Milford granite. The building has a slate roof with a complex roofline, rounded-arch windows, brick chimneys and a square clock tower. Inside, civic offices share the building with a single theater, and much of the woodwork on the main staircases, floors and wainscoting is original.

The building was constructed in the late 1800s as a municipal hall and later transformed into a cinema. This conversion eventually led to its recognition on the National Register of Historic Places.

The theater occupies the hall's original stage space, which hosted dramatic presentations, silent films and vaudeville before its conversion to a movie theater. The clock in the square tower was made by George Milton Stevens of Boston, Massachusetts, and is original to the 1886 building.
