Jockey's Ridge State Park

Jockey's Ridge State Park is a state park in North Carolina's Outer Banks with a massive sand dune system. The dunes rank among the tallest along the Atlantic coast and create a dramatic contrast with the flat surrounding terrain.

The dune system served as a navigation landmark for ships since the 16th century along this dangerous coastline. In the 1970s, community members protected the area from development, resulting in the park's creation in 1975.
