Mt. Sidney Historic District

Mt. Sidney Historic District is a protected area with approximately 74 buildings and 16 sites spread across 40 acres. The structures display different architectural styles like Federal, Greek Revival, and Victorian, arranged along Lee Highway and nearby streets.

The area began in 1826 as a small settlement along the Old Wagon Road, which later became the Valley Turnpike. This route transformation sparked growth and development that shaped the community for decades to come.

The area reflects different religious traditions visible in the churches and cemeteries that still serve the community. These places show how various groups have practiced their faith and gathered together over time.

The buildings remain private residences, but visitors can observe the architecture from public streets and sidewalks. Walking slowly through the area and viewing the structures from outside helps you appreciate the different building styles and details.

Two religious cemeteries reveal how different communities lived side by side, with one dating back to the early 19th century. These burial grounds tell a story of how the area held space for multiple faiths.
