Baxter Building, Public library in downtown Portland, Maine.

The Baxter Building stands at 619 Congress Street, featuring Romanesque Revival architecture with pink granite walls and red oak interior finishes.

Constructed in 1888, the building served as Portland Public Library until 1978, when it was later acquired by Maine College of Art in 1983.

The building holds a collection of local historical documents, including journals and papers from James Phinney Baxter, a former Portland mayor.

The library maintains digital resources through CloudLibrary and ComicsPlus, providing access to ebooks, audiobooks, digital comics, and graphic novels.
